Colkim Kennels is serious about the health of the Shar Pei.  Laurel Colgate and Betty Colgate strive to produce the happy healthy dog.  In 1998 Laurel completed an AS in Veterinary Technology.  This is equal to a LPN in nursing for people to better care for the dogs.  Last year St. Petersburg College initiated a Bachelor of Science program in Veterinary Technology (The only one in the country).  Laurel completed the program in July 2007 and passed the National Certification Exam June 15, 2007.   This is the equivalent of a RN Degree in nursing.  We are learning a lot to help promote healthier dogs.

 

Shar-Pei once a very rare dog breed, is often called the "wrinkled dogs".  Their intelligence, keen ability to be a watch dog, easy housebreaking, and short coat makes the pei a wonderful pet.  The Sharpei is the perfect addition to both the traditional family of mom, dad, and children, as well as, the ideal companion for a couple looking for a substitute child, or devoted friend for the single person.  They are comfortable in an apartment setting with nice walks as well as in a home inside with a backyard to go in and out occasionally.

Colkim Kennel is proud to be among the original group of Shar Pei Breeders in the United States.  We started in 1979.  Our original Shar Pei's were registered with the Chinese Shar Pei Club of America.  These purebred dogs were called foundation stock.  In 1992, The American Kennel Club removed the Sharpei from miscellaneous class to full AKC registration.  Colkim Kennel had our first SCPCA champion in 1982.  All our Shar Pei's are AKC registered.  Most of our loving Male Shar Pei puppies and Female Shar Pei Puppies have Champions in their background pedigree.  Breed and Pet quality are an ideal choice for a family pet.  Showing demands a lot of time and training.  Most individuals find showing too demanding.  All Male Sharpei puppies and Female Sharpei Puppies obtain a complete physical and health certificate.  Our puppies are genetically guaranteed, take a look at our Sharpei Information on Expecting Litters  Pick a Male Shar pei puppy or Female Shar pei Puppy in many beautiful colors including blue, dilute chocolate, cream, fawn, flowered (spotted) apricot and blacks.  Colkim has both mini and standard, hoarse, brush, and bear coats.  

        

In March 2005, Betty Colgate joined a Shar-Pei Group sponsored by Lana Tsan and Eric Takeshi Omura to visit Dailet China.  The group was privileged to attend a Specialty Show for the Shar-Pei and Tibetan Mastiff.&.
